Description:
Ficus 'Burgundy', commonly known as the Burgundy Rubber Plant, is a striking indoor plant known for its thick, glossy, deep green to almost black leaves. This low-maintenance plant is highly valued for its air-purifying qualities and its ability to adapt to various indoor conditions. With proper care, it can grow into an impressive statement piece, adding a bold, modern touch to any space.
Watering:
Allow the top 1-2 inches of soil to dry out between waterings. Water thoroughly, ensuring excess water drains out of the pot. Overwatering can cause root rot, while underwatering may lead to leaf drop. Reduce watering frequency in Winter when growth slows.
Fertilizer:
Feed with a balanced liquid fertilizer every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (Spring and Summer). Reduce feeding in Fall and Winter when the plant's growth slows. Avoid excessive fertilization, as this can cause leggy growth.
Lighting:
Prefers bright, indirect light but can tolerate lower light conditions. Too much direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, while too little light may slow growth and cause leaf drop. A spot near an East- or South-facing window is ideal.
Temperature:
Thrives in temperatures between 65-80°F (18-27°C). Avoid exposure to cold drafts, air conditioning vents, and sudden temperature changes, as these can stress the plant and cause leaf damage. Keep away from temperatures below 55°F (13°C).
Humidity:
Prefers moderate humidity but can adapt to average indoor levels. If the air is too dry, mist the plant occasionally, use a humidity tray, or place it near a humidifier. Dry air can lead to browning leaf edges.
